90 % Proof, paper sealed Green Labels

Prohibition-era Jack Daniel's bottle
I want to start this Green label page with some real good bottles that -sorry to tell- are not in my personal collection. These are from around 1910/1920 the prohibition area. Real sharp bottle with a perfect sample of a prohibition seal "bottled in bond". I just want to show you these labels because we do not see them offten (or not at all...). I do got two of these bottles in my own collection but without that real nice seal, please take a look at them a little futher on this page...

With instructions to use! three teaspoonful a day ! Jummy jummy...

Prohibition-era Amber colored Jack Daniel's bottle
Same era for this Amber glass colored bottle. Talking about rare bottles...

Guaranteed by Jack Daniel under the food and drugs act June 30th 1906 !

Prohibition-era 1920 Jack Daniel's bottle
The next two real old bottles are my own bottles. In 1904, at St. Louis, and in 1905 at Leige (Belgium, Europe) Jack Daniel's Whiskey wa awarded the highest Gold Medals for Excellence. Mr. Jack immediately depicted those medals on his labels. Whiskey-tasting competitions were in vogue in those years preceding Prohibition, and competition wa keen. This is a Pint , clear glass bottle. Dark Green Label, white and Gold lettering. (source: "The Old bottles and Jugs") I made a special close-up from the back label with guide lines for selling this bottle. Real nice , good looking labels (1920 !)
Above a close-up from the front label with only 4 gold medals and back label. You can see on the back label (the white label at the right) that the Jack Daniel's distilling company was located in the district of Alabama during Prohibition and this whiskey was for "Medicine purposes only". On the front label the words "Distilled at the distillery" are missing.... Below a picture of the cork with a wooden top in it...

Green Label 1920 Pint Bottle
This is another bottle from before 1920. According to "the Old bottles and Jugs" booklet, this Pint bottle should be from c1920. It got the same white printing words on the side of the label ("Straight Whiskey" on the left side and "bottled at the distillery" on the right side)
Bottles from around world war 2 are pretty rare. They made black and green label whiskey during the war but as far as I found out they start bottling right after the war. Below you see one of the first bottles from right after the was. The bottle is dated 1949 and problebly filled around the same time.

The bottle has an awesome tax stamp from Kentucky.

c.1958 4/5 quart square bottle
This bottle was sold around 1958. It has the older paper seal with the volume on the side printed, the "4/5 Quart". This bottle below is in absolute mint condition, you will not find a better one I promise you! It looks exactly the way it was standing onthe shelfs in a liquor store almost 50 years ago (!). Plastic seal, paper seal and paper labels are crispy clean. This is a "Ten" on the scale of top bottles.

It's the "Lem Motlow" embossed bottle. These bottles are more rare as the "standard" embossed bottles you see below. The embossed words on the right side: "Federal law forbids sale or re-use of this bottle" and on the back side: "Jack Daniel Distillery Lem Motlow Prop.inc." and under the back side label "Lynchburg, Tenn". On the back label it says that "this whiskey is 4 years old".... That's a lie.. it's almost 54 years old....
Real nice green label 4/5 quart size bottle from around 1968. Still full and sealed. During transport to Holland it has leaked some of the Whiskey which causes the label to fade a bit.

The bottle has a nice tax stamp from Florida and a great booklet around the neck.

Quart Size 4/5 [ 9/10 ] =================Quart size [ 7/10 ]
Below you see one of the first Cameo gift boxes made for the Green Label Jack Daniel's bottles. Made around 1968 sold in a Pint and in a 4/5 size. On the picture on the left side is the 1968 and on the right the 1974 Cameo.

«1974
Around 1974 they made two different cardboard gift boxes with a plastic cameo. Below you see the first one. This one was sold with a 4/5 Qaurt bottle. I would estimate this set it's value at around $ 400.00 (I have seen these sets sell for over $ 600.00 before...) It is in mint condition, [ 9/10 ].

Pint size square bottles
This is the Pint size bottle sold around 1974. Like the 4/5 Quart size bottle above they made a cardboard giftbox with plastic cameo. This sample is sealed and perfect condition with original booklet (estimate value with box = $ 400.00 [ 8/10 ] ). Both bottle and box are in mint condition. There is also a second design Cameo box, this box is on it's way to my collection right now...

perfect plastic seal. [ 10/10 ]
Below you see both the Cameo's in a Pint size, the 1968 and the 1974. Not to mebtion that they are both rare and hard to find...

There is a third (!) design Cameo box. This third box has this small "Distillery No.1 est 1866" printed at the botom »
Not only did they made a Cameo box, but also these kind of cardboard giftboxes. This version below is also from around 1974.

Half Gallon size square bottle
It took me a lot of years to find a perfect sealed sample of this Green Label pint flask. Here it is! Nice sharp labels, perfect plastic and paper seal. And.. a price tag that tells us this bottle was sold "back in them days" for "only" $ 4.80 (I payed almost 30 times as much for it ... Nice investment?)

Real nice Georgia tax label as well.

The embossed word "One Pint "
Perfect plastic and paper seal.

The next bottle was a gift from one of my best friends, K.L. Jones jr. It's a half pint, sealed flask. Nice bottle with perfect labels.

1/10 size miniature bottles
Very rare and wanted are these miniatures with Green Label. It took me more than two years to complete this set of 10 bottles with the same kind of seal. [ 5/10 ]

Here is a salesmans photo sheet used in the 70-ties.

The Green Label matric sized bottles
"Finally in 1975 Congress passed the Metric Conversion Act."
From c. 1975 up to 1983 they started with the transition bottles. Bottles with two kind of volumes embossed on the base of the bottles. Like the 1750 ml / 59.2 Oz volume or the 750 ml / 25.4 Oz.
Now, I do not in which sizes these where made but so far I found (April. 2007):

1750 ml / 59.2 Oz Square transition bottle

Asian 750 ml giftboxed square bottle # I
Below you see a very rare 750 ml size paper sealed bottle. It's a 86 % proof whiskey bottle sold in Japan and has got a perfect paper and plastic seal.
Estimate value of this bottle? I do not know... but I can tell you that I do not sell this bottle for $ 400.00.
I do not know if they also made the other sizes like the 375 ml or even the most sold size 1000 ml but if someone has got one in his/her collection please do write me and we will share this information here in the site so everybody knows what to look for...

This bottle was sold to me with the same kind of gift box I allready had in my collection. Back then it was sold to me with a fake seal Green label.

Asian 750 ml giftboxed square bottle # II
Yes here is another version of these great Japanese giftboxes. This version is even more beautiful as the one above. They used a heavier cardboard material for it. Bottle inside is the same as above, 86 % proof, paper sealed. 100 % intact both paper and cello seal. Simple awesome stuff...

200 ml size Flask
Really nice Green Label 200 ml size transition flask. The transition bottles from the Green Label are pretty hard to find and I do not know in which sizes they where made. It wouldn't surprice me if this was the only size made...
[ 9/10 ]
Nice Eagle seal.
500 ml size Flask
The next transition flask is this 500 ml size. Perfect sealed with paper and plastic seal. It took me about ... 10 years to find it! I have been on Ebay since 1997 and I finaly found one on April 2007. I do not know if there is a 375 ml size but if there is... I hope to find it soon!
