The Jack Daniel's Ertl trucks

One page filled with Ertl trucks. The Ertl company made 5 different miniature cars that are for sale for the general public. With a lot of research I found 12 Ertl cars in total! I got 8 "Prototype" and "pre-production" cars in my collection. From information received from a customer a prototype sample is made for the customers inspection. This Prototype Sample is a Hand-Made One-of-a-Kind items that are very costly to make. They will appear as close to the production model as possible, but most will have color and/or label changes before final production. Some will even get a different body while other may never get produced.

Please enjoy this page and the Ertl cars that are on it.

The Ertl Toy Company

In 1945, Fred Ertl Sr. forged his first tractor replica in his Dubuque, Iowa basement, confident that children young and old would embrace toys created with exacting attention to durability and detail. Today, The Ertl Company, is a multi-faceted producer of not only farm toys, but model kits and die cast collectibles.
Recognizing fantasy and play as core elements of a successful toy company, Fred Ertl, Jr. masterfully combined these with farm replicas to establish the renowned Ertl Company. Joining his father's company in the basement of their Iowa home at the young age of 15 and taking on active management at 18 marked the beginning of a life-long career at Ertl.

The Brand Erlt has made a few Jack Daniel's miniature cars as well. Below you see all of them.
I want to thank Jerry from "Rural America Collectible Toys" for sharing the information about the Prototypes.

1905 Delivery truck prototypes

Let's start with a Prototype Sample: Super rare item dated 19 October 1987.

Original 1905 + the prototypes19 Oct.1987 1 - 2 - 3 (#4 is pictured below)

The First Erlt Jack Daniel's bank was the 1905 Delivery truck sold in 1988. Also with the little key under the car. Limited edition and the rarest Erlt JD truck from the three. There where only 984 cars made!

The prototypes dated 19 Oct.1987 ( 1 ) Black banch and tires, silver colored steering wheel and head lights. Some Ertl Samples will have a Private Brand Sample tag attached to them.

Samples were never meant to be available to the collector. Therefore there are no certificates or documents verifying production or even the existence of samples. They DO NOT come in the custom packaging box the final production model will be put in. Most are put in plain boxes or whatever box is available at the time if they are put in a box at all. [Info Source: Rural America Collectible Toys ]

The second ( 2 ) Prototype car is this Silver colored 1905 Prototype Bank. Black banch, white tires and silver colored steering wheel and head lights. Most Prototype samples have to be identified by appearance alone. Like the use of applied labels on prototype samples and pad printing or silk screening on pre-production samples and final production model.

The third ( 3 ) Prototype car is this black colored 1905 Prototype Bank. Black banch and tires instead of brown banch and white tires, silver colored steering wheel and head lights.

All four trucks are banks with a little key under in the bottom of the truck. On the roof is a slot where you can slide your coins in.

Little key

The forth ( 4 ) Prototype car is this black with silver trim colored 1905 Prototype Bank. Made on 10/09/1987. Brown banch and black tires instead of white tires, silver colored steering wheel and head lights. On the side of the truck the words "Limited edition" are embossed in the metal. Applied labels on both sides of truck.

Ford 1918 Model T Runabout w/Barrel

The second Bank truck was this Ford Barrelbank Runabout. On the left side of the picture you see the orginial one that is sold to the public in a limited production of 1032 models and made back in 1989. On the left side you see a Prototype from this truck.

Although Samples appear as close to production models as possible, color and graphics will differ on most. Some have subtle differences, like a small difference in the color shade, while others have major differences in color and/or graphics. These two Jack Daniel's cars have only different colored tires.

Ertl Stock # 9077. Very nice miniature car and one of my favorites! There where 1032 models made back in 1989.

Another bank is the Ertl 1918 Ford Runabout Barrelbank also with a little key under the barrel. Ertl Stock # 9077. Very nice miniature car and one of my favorites! There where 1032 models made back in 1989.

Hawkeye with crates truck

Below we got a Hawkeye Crate truck. Stock number is # 9342. There is a little key under the truck which opens a little bank! You can save some money in it for your favorite Jack Daniel's items if you can...... Released in 1991.

In my collection I got 1 Proto type from this Hawkeye truck. It's the "third" version they made.

This was the last version of the Hawkeye truck. They changed the color of the tires for the production model into white tires, for the rest it is the same.

In the corner you see a #3 sign. This means that this is a 3rd sample.

The other samples had there pad paint on different place attached.

The Ertl K084

Also from Ertl comes this very rare model with barrels. I haven't found any record of it or history. This is an Ertl salesman sample! It was produced in 1995 but I guess didn't make it tru Jack Daniel's desires. ! I have seen 3 samples of this truck so far... Ertl number is K084 "Barrels (MK)" (2797). This is not a coinbank.

The barrels are made from wood and hand paited !

This car does have an original cardboard box.

Ford 1918 Model T Runabout w/Delivery box

Never seen before and unknown to a lot of Jack Daniel's collectors is this Model T Runabout with a delivery box instead of a Barrel! Also a Prototype that didn't make it to production. It is a bank just like the other trucks above.

The white model has the words Limited edition embossed in the chase (see close up picture).

Close up of applied label.

It does look "cheap" those applied labels on the Prototype but applied label graphics are used on most Hand Made Prototype Samples. The Pre-Production Samples of the same truck have Pad Printed graphics.

I really like the white and the black colored trucks.

Chevy pick-up

Also from the Ertl brand is this Chevy pick-up truck with barrels and crates in the back. Little car, rubber tires, metal frame and plastic top. This truck is pretty rare and hard to find. I have seen it sell for over $ 170.00 in the past several times.

Ertl Bull dog

This Ertl truck is sold in Germany, Europe (end 2003). It's not the most beautiful truck I have in my collection....
