The Older Gunter Jugs
On This Page I will show you the real old W.T. & C.D. Gunter Jugs from around 1890 till 1920 that are in my personal collection. In Nashville, The W.T. and C.D. Gunter company signed on with the Jack Daniel's Distillery as sole sales agents in 1891. Besides there own glass bottles made from 1895 they also produced a couple of jugs.

This is one of the stock jugs they made around 1895/1900. Beautiful piece and almost 100 % perfect. The handle is broken one day but directly glued back so no pieces or chips are missing. It's a small, 1/2 Gallon Domed shoulder jug.

It looks like the jug is picked up right after the stamp was put on the jug while the inkt wasn't complately dry.

each "chip" tells a story.... Love it!
c.1900 W.T. & C.D. Gunter jug (II)
This second W.T. & C.D. Gunter jug is a 1 Gallon size from around 1900. Real nice blue "brand stamp".

With the firing of the glaze this jug has touched another jug or something as you can see on the picture below. The glaze is "damaged" on two spots. This adds a nice charm to the jug.

Half Gallon size jug dated from around 1900. Blue colored stamp. Perfect handle with no cracks. Strange two tone color on top glaze. I had this jug in my collection for only 4 months... Sold it to a friendly JD collector. But here are the cool pictures.

The glaze on the body of the jug is very thick and drips. Nice detail...

Nice two tone colored top.

Gunter Letterhead c. 1909
I want to close this page witha very cool letterhead used by the Gunters back in 1909. It's not mine but send to me by Cecil Lenora Cheney. I am more than happy to share all that is send to me. If vistors/Gunter family members want to share more info or if you're looking for something please contact me at jschuurbiers@hotmail.com.

The letter is apparently from C.D as he refers to his children Ruby and Inda as being sick and he says he has been sick for about 2 mos.and will have to give up their business here on July 1st.and move away. Moving and sickness will take about all we have made in some time.
We send you 25 dollars to buy you a cow with. Now sister I want you to buy you a cow with this money, for I dont know when we will be able to do any more as our family--------- The other half of the letter has been lost
Doom shoulder, two tone jug from the Gunters. Awesome jug. One Gallon size and over 100 years old. This version has a few chips and "blisters" around the neck but that's the charm of a good old jug.

The handle is in perfect condition. No leaks.

Below a good close up picture of the stencel. The stencel is under the glaze.
