"Finally in 1975 Congress passed the Metric Conversion Act."

The transition bottles c.1975/1982 in both ml / Oz

From c. 1975 up to 1983 they started with the transition bottles. Bottles with two kind of volumes embossed on the base of the bottles. Like the 1750 ml / 59.2 Oz volume or the 750 ml / 25.4 Oz. These bottles are sold in:

  • 200 ml / 6.8 Oz flask
  • 500 ml / 16.9 Oz flask
  • 0750 ml / 25.4 Oz
  • 1000 ml / 33.8 Oz
  • 1750 ml / 59.2 Oz

They got the same paper seal and the plastic cover as the old size bottles.

1750 ml / 59.2 Oz Square transition bottle

Beside the 200 ml square bottle, this 1750 ml size is a very dificult to find bottle. This one has the original gift box as well. Nice detail is the price label at top of the box... $ 19.09 (ex. tax)....that's not what I have payed for it.

It looks like this bottle is made in 1977.

Nice detail.. the price label $ 19.09 !

The 1750 ml above is a "transition" bottle. New matrix (1750ml) translated to the old 59.2 Oz volume (half gallon)

750ml Paper sealed Silver Service set

Here we got a 750ml size bottle (750 ml / 25.4 Oz) with a silver service set, the bottle holder and the shot glass as a free gift! This set was sold around 1980 and has got a pretty nice Tennessee tax label. The cardboard full color box is in almost mint condition. The big box holds 6 sets and is not often seen. Allthough the box is beat up pretty good, it is worth to show it here on the site. These boxes are even more rare as the full color boxes...

The silver set is never touched and is in mint condition!

90 % proof paper sealed Singapore bottle

Notting special, just a 90 % proof paper sealed bottle sold at the Singapore airport back in the begin 80-ties.
Standard gift box. Nice extra would be the importers name on the side label.

750 ml / 25.4 Oz Square transition bottle

2 different 90 % proof paper sealed Japanese bottles

Also in Asia they are using this kind of bottles. Below you see a beautiful sample of a Japanese 750 ml / 25.4 Oz bottle (90 % proof) with perfect export seal and box.

Bottle on the right is a translation bottle (see close up picture below).

Small changes are made in the front label. Check out the Japanese language under the word Whiskey. On the left a "standard" bottle. A transition bottle has both the sizes embossed on the bottle side like : 750ml and Oz size.

The transition bottles where sold with a nice gift box. Made out of cardboard they made a few different samples like these below:

200 ml & 500 ml transition flask bottle

Then there are the flask kind of 90 % proof bottles. I got two of them, the 200ml and a 500ml flask. Both sealed with the paper and the glossy seal. The glossy seal is very fragile and can break very easy. (it dries out and just breaks...)

200 ml front, 200 ml side, and 500 ml side and front.
